Sounds great except that you have combined the words "buy" and "software" in the same sentence. That is something I tend to avoid. You may have me confused with Bungee as he is the self-stated multi millionaire.
If you know of an appropriate package that you recommend I could look around a bit, see if I can locate a copy. I have no knowledge of them atm.

So these packages do what? Create a 3D image based on drill results? A series of 2D images perhaps?
I used to use AutoCad for a living and it could be used to draw the cylindrical drill holes and then you could colour code them in a similar way to the drawings put out by the companies. Then you could rotate the lot in 3D and maybe make some guesses at how it all connects.
The only thing is you'd need to understand how these geological formations run and that is something I don't know anything about. Maybe Tibbs, he seems to have a lot of knowledge in that area.
I guess a package that takes in the drill results would have to have to be given parameters stating what the mineral is, the type of geological formations common in the area etc. Come to think of it that would be a pretty snazzy piece of software.
