I've been with BT for a number of years and prior to that with Westpac. This is the first time I've been given a "we're going to charge you" letter in relation to life insurance.

There is something seriously wrong with these companies or their charter if they feel that they have the right to do this.

It reminded me of the invoices I used to receive for advertising in alternate 'yellow pages' or supposedly taking out a subscription to some Tax advice company, which I had never subscribed to.

I never paid any of those invoices because I knew I hadn't subscribed. They were sent to my company and addressed to "The Accounts Department".

I am "The Accounts Department", "The Managing Director", "The Financial Controller", and pretty much any thing else except for "The Cleaning Lady", so luckily those bills came directly to me. In a larger organisation, presumably these would slip through and be paid by a well meaning person in "The Accounts Department", believing that someone else had authorised the payment (unless of course, purchase orders had been raised).

    Cheers,
    Tangrams
