By the way, I might add that I'm not new to this game. I've made all the mistakes that everybody can make. I began some thirty years ago.

Just for the public record, I might also add that in 1999 I finished ninth out of 17,000 in The Australian's Share Market game. The results were publicly reported in The Australian - the final results in a major one page article dissecting what had happened during the game.

And No - it wasn't because I had one lucky winner that boomed all the way through the game. It was because I followed clear trends in the big diversified miners, gold miners and the banks.

The guy who won was an intra-day trader who followed high tech stocks. (I remember that one of those was 'Liberty' - remember 'Liberty'? The company doesn't even exist now - back then it was one of the 50 Leaders. Another victim of the dot.com bust.)

I couldn't compete with him. He was simply amazing. Nobody in the game could compete with him - he was so far in front of the field it wasn't funny.

But I didn't do too badly either. I was just a smidgin off second place.
