Checkmate Payday Loans and Checkmate Research have very similar logos. The research logo just looks like a modernised version of the payday loans logo.
After reading the research report, my first thought was that it's the tactic of an unethical competitor. There's a good chance the research is funded by them. I'm betting CCP has begun competing in their target markets (states) in USA.
