I recall reading that wind farm design assumed a mid thirties capacity factor as a general rule . Can't remember where I read it exactly and it was a while ago .
I do know that the new big offshore turbines ( 8mw + ) are talking about the forties but that 's because the wind resource is much better and more consistent .
Atlantic ocean for example .
The ' Star of the South ' project that is being looked at for offshore Victoria is supposed to have some pretty good numbers . The Great Australian Bight has some really good numbers also . It's not practical now but that doesn't mean it won't be in the future . I think it was included in Beyond Zero Energy's proposal a few years ago .
