    Hi monark
Your wording is a little incorrect, mining for lareites is extremely cheap compared to sulphides. Lats pits are very shallow only go to about 40M max, you can use a road stripper to dig up. Also there is basically no blasting due to ore being of a clay base.
The processing is more expensive but this is after the crushers and mills. The crushers are of the sizer type and not jaw crushers or cone crushers due to the very little amount of rocks dug up so are much cheaper to buy , construct and maintain. This is not hard rock mining. Also the mills ,as they are basically used as scrubbers, meaning all they do is add water to turn clay to slurry and have very few balls do not have as maintenance required in relining the mills constantly and wear plates in feed and discharge chutes do not get replaced as often. This is what makes lats competative, yes higher processing costs but lower mining costs.
