    atomou, I think on the one hand you are being highly cynical about drug companies (fair enough, some ethics have been very questionable) and highly naive on the other hand (that complete elimination of drug testing on animals would have minimal consequences).

    Suppose a cure for many cancers were developed - or for AIDS which is ravaging Africa, it would need to go through toxicity testing prior to human trials. Yes, I do put human life above that of a rat. I assume both you and mistyrains are vegetarian, and yes that includes fish.

    I believe if animal testing were banned it would see an explosion in testing in 3rd world countries. What is the lesser of the evils?

    Anyway the argument is moot, a blanket ban won't happen in our lifetimes.
