The 50% CGT discount was initially introduced only as an interim measure due to a change in legislation however the Howard government maintained it.

The 50% CGT discount caused an investment or speculative bubble in real estate and pushed up real estate prices.

The 50% CGT discount should be abolished for all things including shares.

However this would cause hell for the little bloke who owns his token investment property.
