oh voltaire....i wish. i don't actually feel that smart at the moment. for the last month or so, i've been weighing up the odds that the market is close to a low and thinking about reinvesting my super.....or alternatively, just leaving it in an interest bearing account til the next armstrong low.....or risking a portion of my funds back in the market and leaving the rest accuring interest.

i wish i felt more comfortable with our (and that of the u.s.) economic climate - which i don't. have we seen the worst? how can it be possible if we are just begining to see the ill affects of the u.s. contagion affecting australian businesses. our high interest rates and currency has to have some negative impact at some point soon. or is this how one is supposed to feel when the market is just about to turn?

the other side of the equation for me is weighing up the benefits of risking my super in a bull run that may only last a year. a bull run of such short duration means sticking with a blue chip portfolio as speculative stuff is usually the last to run.

when you take into account transfer fees, is it worth the effort?

as a mum and someone who doesn't envisage being in the workforce for much longer, i also feel the need to employ a conservative strategy when times call for one. during the peak of the bull market, i took risks and profited handsomely. there will come a time when that strategy will work again but not now.

if we are close to some sort of low for the market, i may just invest a portion of my trading funds as it just seems to makes more sense to me at the moment - but i don't like using cfd's for medium term investing because of the associated costs.

i've also come to enjoy index trading - so i then wonder why even bother with stocks if the market is likely to continue to be volatile.

now that is just a glimpse of my crazy thought process....scary huh. as i said, i'm not feeling very smart at the moment. :)
