On to Beach Petroleum (BPT, $1.34). As with the others, it's hard to see past depreciation charges, hedge losses and the like to the "real" result. But Beach looks to be making a decent fist of outbidding Santos for Delhi Petroleum's Cooper Basin assets.
Beach also improved its reserves position, to 94 million barrels from 89 million barrels previously. Unlike others, Beach has taken advantage of toppish values in the sector, selling off a 20 per cent interest in the Bass Strait's Basker Manta Gummy field in two deals worth a collective $246 million.
