Not sure if the ABC mentioned anything about the last time someone discovered such a large gross/oil column in the West ?

A thick oil column that was reported last week in the Caley formation is unheard off in the west, since the Laminaria discovery by BHP-Shell-WPL in 1994-'95. The initial volume estimates for Dorado will b interesting, depending on the Area mapped, thickness etc etc.

Pre-drill estimates by CVN were for gas in the Caley, circa 545 bcf + 30 mmbbls, i.e, 125 mmboe 100% basis. Instead of gas, the JV found light oil (49 API density) in the Caley.

So they need to drill out to TD and see what else lies beneath & calculate the volumetrics, i.e Oil in place & the Contingent Resource and update the market accordingly.

They'll need Sidewall cores, Pressure data, MDT sampling info, net Thickness, Porosity etc from the wireline logs. More the sub-surf info collated, the better their static model will b which should also incorporate 3Dseis data for the Reservoir sands.

Once the numbers etc are available, they'll have to come up with an Appraisal drilling plan to assess the extent of this Oil Discovery in due course.
