goon, I spent a large amount of my life living in a predominately muslim society, and that is not the message I got AT ALL, in fact I don't think the issue of one being superior to the other ever arose, ever.
What I however do think is that there are those who do believe such attitudes are present, but that is more likely a case of their own perceptions of themselves, and not neccessarily the perception of those who they come into contact with. Anyone who has a negative impression of themselves is likely to subconsciously convey that impression to those they meet. First impressions are very important and some people are very perceptive and able to form them more quickly than others.
I remember being introduced to a very astute and intense Indonesian general one time. I felt as if I was being intensely xrayed for a second or two as he looked me up and down a couple of times before he decided I measured up. Once you got past that stage with that particular man your name was always good.If you didn't there was no need to hang around.
The point I am making is that it is often your own perception of yourself that you see reflected in how people interact with you.
