Publishing the results could be considered prior art and jeopardise any future patent application. Furthermore you would be giving your competitors a leg up in their research efforts. Ideally the results should only be communicated and/or publish once a patent application has been filed.

Many organisation place restrictions on their R&D staff regarding what they can and can't publish to protect IP. @Neil1959 perhaps you could comment on the safeguards QBL has put in place with Dr Meiri's team to protect the IP generated from his lab
