Belated Happy Swiss National Day for 1 August! My wife of 45 years is of Swiss parentage but was born here soon after they emigrated in 1953. They ran the Chalet Swiss restaurant in Sydney in the 60s and 70s which was popular with the Sydney Swiss community including the local horn players and yodellers. But I digress......

I retired early from a career as a scientist with CSIRO and spent 6 or 7 years successfully trading and investing full time. Im not rich though because the gfc whacked me pretty badly. I was a big follower of the Hardman story on hc and made a bit from that although a lot less than I should have! Hope to do better this time with FAR.

Have eased back on the trading since the gfc and taken some bits of work here and there to fund a future retirement (which is close). Still trading a little but mostly investing long term as with FAR.

We are currently in FNQ for 3 weeks visiting our son who is completing his PhD in Marine Ecology. Its close to paradise up here (Reef, Atherton tablelands, Cairns, Magnetic Island) at this time of the year but not in summer!

I have an older brother who is the genius of the family and one of Australia’s leading businessmen. Former President of the BCA, chairman of a number of major companies. No claim to those sort of smarts from me .... just some context. My interests have been more science, ecology, and conservation. I guess that its the excitement of mining and oil stocks that attracts me and to be honest the risk/reward and potential big payoff.
