Americans can modify their behaviour only slightly and the economy would turn on a dime.
For example they could give up their F100s, Bud and Malboros.
It's not as serious as people love to make out. They have the highest discretionary spending and the economy is four times India and China together i.e. the average American is 30 times more productive.
