It wil be the ordinary employees, the people who have investments with them, and the members of super funds and managed funds that have shares in Macquarie who would suffer most. By the way Macquarie going broke is probably the worst possible event that could happen to the Australian financial system. Given Macquarie's interconnectedness and exposure to the rest of the banking system I think bankruptcy to Macquarie would be more likely to create a devastating domino effect than bankruptcy of one of the Big 4 banks.
