"Sorry to detract from the conversation. But could you have a look at vtg please? I’m not sure whether it is a value trap."
@Chocomuncher ,
I have looked at VTG from time to time.
In order to form a view as to whether or not a stock is a value trap or not, one needs to be able to value that stock.
And to be able to value a stock, one needs to be able to form a view of the value of such a stock.
Problem is, with VTG, I have no idea what it is I am buying or what the company will look like in one-, two- or three-years' time.
It looks to me like it is currently made up of a loose agglomeration of quite disparate businesses (a shop front for Telstra, IT consulting, sportswear distribution, electronics goods distribution, skin care clinic operator), none of which strike me as possessing any meaningful commercial moats.
I mean, as a VTG shareholder, what is it that I really own?
What's the actual essence of the VTG business model?
Is it to go out and randomly buy stuff ('cos that's what it looks like to me)?
How does the company's management effectively run such different businesses?
What guarantees the long-term tenure of VTG's current suite of businesses (let alone their growth)?
Lots of questions, with very few answers in my limited cranial capacity.
Hey, they stock price could go up from here.
But I have no ability to be able to discern why that might occur.
Sorry; I'm sure that is not very helpful to you.
