    I don't think they will purely due to economics.

    * $60K hydrogen car is not a profitable car. Its far more complex than an electric car...a variant of the traditional internal combustion engine = more moving parts = higher maintenance costs.
    * Hydrogen potentially costs as much as petrol IF derived from natural gas (CH4), which is a fossil fuel = CO2 = environmentally no no
    * Hydrogen obtained through electrolysis of water uses a lot of power = costly
    * Hydrogen transport is a nightmare and costly. No infrastructure as opposed to the electricity grids all over the world. Some news on that today with ammonia and membranes but that's still a long way away.

    Energy wise, its pretty obvious.
    Solar panel -> battery in EV

    versus

    Solar panel -> splitting water to hydrogen + oxygen -> compressing or liquifying hydrogen
