banjar, you still havent acknowledged the point that the aussie manufacturers never had a chance because it was stacked against them. Consumers of course will go with the lowest price mostly because they have a budget to stick to. Most wouldn't think twice about the big picture.
Where possible I always buy Australian made, but I don't live and die by it. There's a lot of things we simply don't make anymore. I have no problem buying imported goods if the terms of trade are fair.
Australia is still by far the very best country in the world to live in. Nothing in Asia comes even close.
Contrary to your assumption, I am very widely travelled. It has been my experience that most of South East Asia is a polluted, overcrowded, corrupt sh!thole. The rule of law is rarely respected, they are more racist than the white man and will not allow anywhere near the same degree of personal freedoms that we enjoy here.
