Yabbies, Coonacs or Jilgies! Three names which everyone believes are the same thing however - they are three separate species all found in similar habitats. (Well at least over in the South West)
The best of all are marron - they can grow bigger than 1kg - I caught one at 1.2kg last year from the old secret spot #2! A place my family have been fishing for over 30 years and always seem to catch our fill because we only fish it once a year giving it a chance to recover stocks.
For my 20c - the best recipe is boiled in water and eaten fresh on a sanga with a sweetener of seafood sauce drowned in beer of any flavour! Close second is butterflied on a hot bbq plate with a drizzle of chilli and lime sauce drowned in beer of any flavour. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!
