Most companies don't have the option to sue anyone for defamation due to the 10 employee rule. Although it's not entirely clear if that's what the company is looking to sue for or if they're going to sue under the trade practices act for false and misleading conduct(this was what CDU threatened to do at one point) which gets around the 10 employee thing. If the directors want to sue, although it's still a terrible look and history doesn't bode well for shareholders of companies whose directors do sue, they should be doing it on their own time and money. Companies can counter any media/social media commentary through ASX announcements and should leave it at that, commentary won't cause a company to fail.
