Actually, despite the instability in the government put on display this week, the country is not about to tank. In fact, we have not been in such good shape for many years.

We have one enormous vulnerability, which was almost fixed. That is ongoing reliability of electricity supply which is so fundamental to our economy and domestic standard of living. We lost the chance to provide the legislative framework that would have given the sector the confidence to invest in new and lower cost generation and transmission infrastructure. We were soooooooooo close to fixing that.

We now need to work out how we will cope with a power system experiencing increasing unreliability resulting in pushing prices higher. The impact of this on our economy is significant.
