ASX-quoted iron-ore company Sundance Resources announced on Monday that it had signed an agreement with Western Australia-based drilling services group Wallis Drilling for the 2007 resource drilling programme at its 90%-owned Mbalam iron-ore project in the Republic of Cameroon.
Wallis would mobilise two drill rigs for the 2007 exploration programme, whereupon it was envisaged that Wallis would mobilise additional rigs for Sundance's proposed long-term drilling programme at Mbalam.
"The initial scope provided for up to 20 000 m of reverse circulation and diamond drilling to be carried out at Mbalam during 2007, with the program scheduled to begin in April, Sundance said in an electronically disseminated statement."
The Mbalam project was estimated to contain initial mineralisation in excess of 800-million tons, with 218-million tons of iron-ore grading greater than 60% iron, the firm said.
Aeromagnetic surveying had identified more than 35 km of “highly prospective” itabirite iron formation in the Mbalam region, underpinning Sundance's commitment to its prefeasibility study of the project
