    Hi Jane,

Your broker is definitely offering your shares to another of his/her client who wants to short the stock

The broker takes no risk as well

Its up to the client to short sell or long (buy the stock)

If the shares go higher in a couple of days and the person shorting is forced to buy back at a loss then the gain/loss is on the client

The broker can charge an interest for lending the shares.

I am pretty sure this is the case

Either way Jane you must ask your broker to clarify the situation before you proceed- its your right to be fully informed as a client
