I don't agree that the entire sector is 'stuffed', When investing it pays to follow the smart money and the fact that large Diversified miners are increasing or taking a stake in the battery minerals sector is a good indication of where they think the sector is going. Last month we had BHP announcing they will be ploughing more money into Nickel mine development and exploration in WA. On the outskirts of Perth they are building what is expected to be the worlds largest Nickel Sulphate plant. Another Diversified miner in Mineral Resources (MIN) only last week purchased a strategic stake in Barra resources, the funds will be used to complete a PFS on the Mt Thirsty Cobalt, Nickel oxide project.
In the short term in appears that hedge funds are taking advantage of the time lag between the DFS completion and financing/construction of these mines but long term when miners the calibre of BHP and MIN are changing their strategic positions like this it may pay to take notice.
