I hear what you say, mate, but I really cant regard Israel as a custodian of anything beyond its own interests, least of all Christian sacred sites.
You mentioned Hamas.....they were elected to govern unanimously and democratically by the Palestinian people. They are the duly elected representatives of the people. Trouble is, Israel & the US wouldnt recognise them...........So now they have split the country, and Abbas is but an Israeli puppet. Divide & conquer. Israel doesnt want peace, it wants the whole ME for a playground. Nah, we'll never have peace till Israel gets taken back a peg or 2. And all Jewish people I know agree with me there and condemn Israel.
