Blaming Trump for Australia being dependent on China for trade is a bit rich , Oz with its free trade policies has resulted in it being dependent on coal and iron ore exports to one state controlled market that being China and in return purchasing inferior plastic goods while the Australian manufacturing industry crumbles , which is also the backbone of the Australian military hardware so military security has been compromised
OZ should have stayed diversified in its exports and its markets and formed an OPEC type cartel with VALE the Brazilian state iron ore exporter to maintain iron ore prices
It would not have been so bad if the Oz export trade was in surplus while it sold the family silver however the reverse has occurred for the last 16 years with it becoming indebted to other countries therefore they now control Australia's wholesale interest rates .
Trump wants to prevent the USA ending up like Australia so he is imposing tariffs , personally I think he is on the right track although he should not also not antagonise China as a more nuanced targeted approach would achieve more ie slap a military tariff on China for its military build up which is costing the USA taxpayer as the USA has to also increase its own military spending and also put a technology theft tariff in action .
