Bishop is 100% correct.
With the country there were no dividing policy issues ... NEG was wanted by a majority of Australians, as was marriage equality, as was a workable fully funded Gonski for example. Tax cuts to small and medium business were passed. Granted, proposed tax cut to big business were unpopular, despite a sound business/employment case.
The deep policy chasm was with the minority conservative faction against NEG, for Big Coal, bitter about marriage equality and their use of these set up a vengeful, unnecessary leadership change.
Liberals will face a routing next election imo for the division and blinding dysfunction within.
