Agents are getting desperate to give the impression the market is alive and kicking, and here in Victoria even the Real Estate Institute of Victoria (REIV) is turing a blind eye to agents manipulating reporting.
A house in the Eastern suburbs was passed in at auction early Dec, went on the market for private sale, and was sold first week of Jan.
Agent report to the press the house was "sold after" auction - nothwithstanding the REIV's own Code of Practice (6 (b) (ii)states:
An agent is not permitted to claim or report in a newspaper or otherwise that a property has been sold in the category "Sold After"
When I rang the REIV to point out the agents actions the REIV said "we don't act on complaints from the public - only other agents"
Desperate times indeed
