    goldsteve,

i'm not going to "bag you" but i will ask a few questions.

i have been a constant poster on SDL over the past couple of weeks. do you say i am a "punter"

in one sense i take it as a complement, makes me feel young at heart. but in the overall picture i have a substantial investment on the market, its spread and not just in one basket, but enough to buy more than a few houses with. in that sense i don't consider myslef a punter, as in the type that goes in gung ho, closes the eyes and wishes for the best.

my investement in SDL is a punt. you are on the money there. until drill results are confirmed everyones $ in this one is a punt. but i have perfomred extensive reserach and believe in the story. i may one day wake up and realise the dream or perhaps it will end in a nightmare so in that sense i'm punting on SDL.

but Mr Forrest was a punter too and sometimes you've gotta weigh up the risk and reward. a calculated risk and reward, not a whim and a prayer. But that again depends on ones own finacial situation. i don't margin lend, i play with real $. i can afford to lose on SDL though i hope in the long run i won't. and i believe i wont also.

As for the Packer/Murdoch/Rich debacle. Do you know the full story there? because if you do it was all a learning curve for the young heirs (Packer and Murdoch).
Jodee Rich was bit too gung ho, he was a "SERIOUS PUNTER" and in this case he almost pulled it off. The heirs $ though came from their fathers. Kerry Packer tried to prevent his boy from getting in but the young James saw too many $ signs. Kerry ended up letting his son invest knowing there was a big chance of failure. it was a mistake his son had to make. The young bull need to learn the hard way and it cost dad a billion.

Talbot, Sarich and the likes have already made their mistakes. They are now considered the old bulls. I point you to the fact Sarich started selling property 6 months before the subprime woes. impecible timing? or educated thinking? he's been there before remember, he's seen the crashes and the flushes. But he didn't sell SDL ????

the question i pose is why?
