Another thought worth considering is the likelihood that Merrill Lynch may have taken up a holding of Paladin on the chance (Knowing or Unknowing) that Areva or Cameco may be primed & ready to pounce. Cameco has already previously mentioned within the Media that they are looking for acquisitions, & that Company share prices are now trading at fair value.

One thing is for certain, and that is that both Cameco and Areva are currently cashed up for opportunities that may arise.

But most probable as you have mentioned N/S, its most likely the case that Merrill can see Paladin as a valued long term Investment. The acquired (as it currently seems)13Mill+ Crabb and Swaby shares may well be looked upon as a windfall in attaining their planned & required holdings a little sooner than they envisaged, as from what I can attain from the announcement they started buying up since Mid December 2007. and prior to attaining Fridays 13Mill+ shares Merrill was not required to announce to the market of their Substantial Holdings in PDN because it was below 5%. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but from my understanding, anything above 5% Holding in a Company, must be formerly announced as a Substantial/Holding Announcement.

The overnight PDN action on the TSX will give Holders a true Indication of what the Market thinks of Todays after close Merrill Lynch Announcement.
