Just because someone was "carrying" a book it doesn't mean s/he accepted what the book said. If you mean one of those books written by the "Beat Generation" (like "On the Road" by Kerouac) then that is a good portrayal of the 50s-60s, though you're talking about the 70s here. Don't know.
Don't like drugs at all but dress is a fashion and no one can do anything about it. Men just have to control the leeriness. Women, too, for that matter! lol
