that's not so crazy really. The main reason Europeans drive small cars and Americans prefer gas guzzlers is a difference in tastes which is affected by marketing. High petrol taxes help too which just shows why we should be raising taxes instead of lowering them. No point in raising them if the revenue doesn't fund good alternatives though.
