    Wave hello to study
    Ken Matts

A COMPANY developing wave energy technology to generate power is to undertake a feasibility study in Albany.
Carnegie Corporation Ltd was given approval on Tuesday night by Albany City Council to conduct the study off the south coast.

The company will conduct the study at a Crown Reserve near the wind farm at Sand Patch during the next three years.

The area has easy access to the sea bed and possible future links to the power grid.

Representatives from Carnegie Corporation provided a briefing session for councillors on March 20 to explain the company’s ‘CETO’ Wave Energy Technology.

CETO technology harnesses wave energy via a series of submerged buoys and pumps, generating high-pressure sea water that can be used to either drive turbines to generate base-load electricity, or create desalinated water via osmosis.

Albany was chosen during an evaluation of suitable sites for a large-scale wave energy facility.

The company considers CETO wave energy technology has the potential to make Albany a net exporter of zero emission electricity.
