Cratylus. I don't see why the taxpayer should pay benefits to any person in OZ who is 'work shy', indigenous or not. But it is undeniable that, as a proportion of the indigenous population, their unemployment rate is extremely high. This is partly due to to the fact that they live in remote areas where work is rather scarce and, and they receive 'sit down' money to which they have become accustomed as their right. We have allowed this to happen, together with very lax rules for entitlement to unemployment benefits to NON Indigenous as well as Indigenous persons, and, as a consequence, we have been forced to import workers from overeas.
What stage has this rich country reached when we still have a large pool of unemployed in a booming economy combined with a substantial increase in people on sickness benefits, forcing employers to import workers from overseas? Something smells in the 'State of Denmark' and it's not a pleasant smell.
Just ask Noel Pearson what he thinks this rate of unemployment amongst Aboriganl people is doing to his people.
