sallywoofs - I haven't been to France for any length of time, certainly not recently - can only go by what I see in the newspapers. I have been born in Austria, but I am Australian, have been for most of my life, only found out about people like "Hayek" (Austrian School of Economics) via Hotcopper and learning. I haven't heard of Kuehnelt-Leddihn, but will check it out.
I am curious - as a friend recently said of me: 'you are curious like a cat' - and that I am.

which means: on most subjects I have an open mind and I do not form fixed opinions, like so many on HC do - everything is always subject to more information input - often from unexpected sources.

On France: I can only give you a heartfelt opinion: like England, France is suffering the consequences of having been a coloniser of nations who were all Muslim, like England - to assuage a bad conscience, back in the days when travelling was a major and expensive undertaking, all those subject nations were told they are 'French' and France is also their homeland. Like England the chickens are coming home to roost now.

We are, worldwide, in a period of unprecedented change and upheaval - one might even think - when you put climate change into the equation - that we are in the latter days of some of the biblical prophecies. I do not subscribe to that, but rather 'believe in humanity' and our capacity to come out of difficult situations with something new and incredible.

The EU is an experiment which seems doomed at the moment. I am sad about it, because if you look at European history, it is a never-ending succession of the various peoples, who are most likely more closely related than meets the eye, snatching bits of land off each other, most often at the prize of extreme human suffering and death.

I personally applaud the EU, even though the dominant nations are Germany and France (and England, if they want to be) - the Nordics could have been a good counterweight to that, had they united as a bloc - so are the former Eastern European nations, of which I have the most respect for the Poles, a people of high energy, who are making the most of what this new age offers. Again, I haven't visited any of these countries, can only say what I read and some of my friends, which are a fairly international group, offer in the way of opinions.

The French will come out of this a hybrid nation - at least in the major cities, I think - Islam hasn't got much of a chance of permanent survival, much like our churches, unless it reforms- and I doubt it will reform, there are too many 'little men' interested in being 'the Imam' of a small group - they are incapable of collaborating and integrating into a whole force. Islam may grab a bit of a foothold amongst Western men, when you look at the way some Western men are disenchanted with the Women's Rights Movement, which also has a role to play IMO (I am a woman, have had to fight my battles, independently, despite having a wonderful male at my side) and will continue to develop, upset, shock, contradict etc. etc.

BUT until all this happens, there will be much soul-searching, many bruises, some deaths, more assassinations - you name it. BUT we have organisation on our side and discipline and now a centuries-old tradition of great armies and other organisations which can deal with civil unrest etc.

My view of what the world will look like in 100 years' time: if we are lucky, we will have decided to use nuclear power for domestic and industrial use and there will be many power stations dotting the landscape, quietly chugging away producing the juice for industry, maybe there will be a lot of solar on roof tops, or perhaps just as paint on houses, windows, as well - we will eat less meat, grow a lot more vegetables - we might even have made our first settlement somewhere in the Universe - we certainly will have developed space travel.

The kind of greed and self aggrandizement we see now, will probably continue, but will be more frowned upon; we will have become a more cooperative species, because we will have seen a lot of turmoil and destruction.
Africa and its huge and uneducated populations are a big problem - THAT will be the battle in the next 20 - 30 years IMO; it will impact on Europe generally.
