Saintnik, the United Nations can't work it is flawed as was its predecessor the League of Nations. I am not saying the US is a great country but I am saying the alternative potential super powers would be a lot worse.
And as far as the US losing support when push comes to shove they haven't. Europe and Russia will back at the end of the day as it is in their interest to do so. Economically sanctioning nations just doesn't work.
If Iran develops the nuclear bomb would we dare sanction them? Fact is we need someone who is not afraid to get their hands dirty to keep the status quo. The world is full of zealots and the US is the best of a bad bunch.
Nucular, you have to remember if they could conquer us and impose their religion and culture on us they would. They are attempting to do it now. Their culture is flawed as it calls for hate to say it, war on unbelievers.
No way I want to see any unstable country ever get the "bomb". More to the point Iraq and the Middle East asked for trouble. Bombing the twin towers and burning effigies of the West is asking for a kicking.
Now they got one what's the problem? Personally if I was the Middle East I would be trying to work with the US not against them. Why provoke a super power you get burned. And let’s face it who can beat the West?
At the end of the day the dominant culture will always strive to protect itself hence the West will always pull together. Which means don't start what you can't finish. Sorry but the US was backed into a corner and had no choice. Can't blame them for that.
