The only thing it has going for it is the oil, so it is in Iran's interest to promote higher oil prices.
Within 5 to 10 years most of cars coming off the production lines will be powered by other fuel sources other than gasoline. This will caused by high oil prices and demand for green power sources.
Then oil will no longer be such an important commodity as it is now and the Middle East will no longer preoccupy the powers as it has in the past.
