You may have seen in some items where this technology is referred to as HDR or, Hot Dry Rocks.
I think this resource was expected to be dry originally and GDY couldn't believe their good fortune when they drilled into the granites and found they were saturated with trapped water.
A perfect situation particularly, as you point out, in a rather arid landscape. Like RATHER.
