Thanks Cazzex. Maybe should acknowledge that during that period (and a couple of years beyond), I rented out that property.
So, the rent money helped heaps. I was living cheaply at home during this period. I was also prepared to work during school holidays (as a teacher, I could do this). The fact I began as a shorthand-typist meant that there was always casual/temporary work available for the taking. Everything used to pay down the loan..... I drove a beetle which I had bought from an academic who had cared for it well. Kept that car for over 20 years, having bought it at only 2 years old....
A meal or coffee out was a rare treat but, hey, it was only for just over a couple of years. I had suddenly become very very determined after a time of spending all my wages on clothes and myself.
