    Alan,

It is not just Qantas having a go there.

One example, I use to fly from London to Charleroi (Belgium) on most weekends for around 18 quid, now equal to about $50. OK so cool fair, BUT, most punters who flew with me paid about $250, since they did not book ahead. THat was Ryanair, and that is how they make a profit. Self advertising gets people in by assuming that the low frills airlines will always be cheaper, hence they never look (fool and the money is easily parted), and pay top dollar. Once, due to appalling traffic in the morning, I missed the check in by a minute (I kid you not), and they charged by over 40 quid to get the next plane, which was well over double the ticket price return !!!!.

Another time, I was asked to go to Auckland for a contract interview, flew in Saturday morning, out SUnday, Thai charged me $650, cheeky bastards, as it was normally $450 if I went on the Monday.

All airlines will bend you over if you have not planned and booked ahead. THere are some smart operators thoughh that would rather have their planes full. Find them, and you fly way way cheaper.

    Aeroflot - now come on.

Just as an example, and using the guy that went Aeroflop, there is a fare at the moment, round the world, it goes Sydney, either Singapore, Bangkok, Tokyo, Hong Kong, then to Frankfurt, with then a choice of 80 cities in Europe, Kiev (I think that is Ukraine) being one, then to the States and back home.

Bet if they book straight to Ukraine, it would be well up to $2500, the above is $1600 (plus tax)
