Sorry to tell everyone this but frankly lithium is NOT the FUTURE. Today after finally some break in good rains I went and bought a 58V AEG lawnmower, trimmer and garden blower set from the local big box hardware store (and they promised to send me a complementary chainsaw or two by redemption). I figured I’d see if the electric gear could even cope with the lush, thick, overgrown and wet mess which is the back yard. Jeez got to tell you it’s not the future you think.

On just one battery (4Ah) I managed to do all the edges, cut all the lawn and blow away all of the errand grass mats which the missus was eyeing nervously entering the house. I have never pushed a mower so light so easily through such thick and wet grass before and I’m old enough to have pushed a good few mowers around. It smashed away anything any petrol mower I’ve had before could do including my now about to be sold Honda contractors model that I thought was top of the line.

Lithium the future .... nope, it’s the NOW. Do yourself a favour; if you still mow lawns, get a higher voltage battery powered model and get rid of the fumes, oils, air filters ... carb services etc etc. My neighbour looked on enviously as I completed the job and came in for a beer. He’s still out there now. I think he might be trying to get the Kawasaki trimmer to start - I’d tell him to just pull the trigger but I think he might go inside, get something else with a trigger and do just that.

New advertising mantra for Li companies ... LITHIUM IS THE NOW.

Oh and my son said “Dad, now it just has to be solar powered”. I pointed to the panels on the roof and shrugged..
