The successful Independents see their vote increase at future elections due mainly to their on the ground local presence.
They are deemed to be working for the constituents on local concerns and issues rather than playing Canberra games. That's their advantage.
Also the electorate can be a target for Federal funded pork barreling when the party that considers themselves the rightful owner try and win it back.
