It also (is meant to) restrict/limit insider trading from those first privy to the news (i.e on site), which they can do either directly or indirectly.
As for receiving the announcement twenty minutes (exaggeratIon) prior to market opening... well, I guess the presumption is anyone trading in mining stocks should be able to interpret the results and factor it into their decision making in the allotted time. Retailers don't get a leg up in this game - benefiting the market low on the list of priorities for any company.
Where's Helmenesh? That's bothering me more than no announcement.
