News this week on an Australian commercialisation project using sodium ion batteries. Potential for lithium disruption here if sodium technology proves itself. We are at an early stage of the EV and battery revolution, I wouldn’t be surprised that if a cheaper and cleaner solution (with the same or better energy densites and charging times) is found that it will eventually distrupt lithium. Distruption is a medium to long term risk with these emerging technologies. Esh

Sodium is inexpensive and can be found in seawater so is virtually limitless. However, sodium is a larger ion than lithium, so it is not possible to simply "swap" it for lithium in current technologies. For example, unlike lithium, sodium will not fit between the carbon layers of the ubiquitous LIB anode, graphite.”
