Interesting point and I agree magnetite ores often require fine grinding before upgrading. In addition, past operations have often included a pelletizing process where magnetite is converted to haematite. In fact this is what happens now to Savage River product after it has been carried to Port Latta by slurry pipeline.

Currently the only real advantage this pelletized product has is its exceptional purity, Whether the premium covers the costs of upgrading and pelletizing is debatable.

Magnetite's real advantage over haematite is a significant reduction in CO2 emissions when it is direct reduced with natural gas and used as electric arc furnace feedstock. Right now this CO2 reduction makes no difference but when/if we get carbon trading/carbon taxes, this will change.
