I think the host rock - both saprolite and shale, are porous and permeable (saprolite more so), and that means they would be amenable to any sort of acid or cyanide leaching I expect, and also may be easier to grind or shatter. Gold hosted in quartz costs a bit to break down, but on the other hand you can find big lodes in quartz sometimes. Do any miners or geos have any views on this?
