Median is an average. However, the fact that you "wouldn't say it was necessarily that much higher" is based on what exactly?
Personally, I think plough is closer to the correct answer than you are.
There are three averages, mode, median and arithmetic. Mode is the most common IQ level, median the IQ level at which 50% of the population has a higher one and 50% a lower one, and arithmetic is total IQ divided by number of people being measured.
Which one is used doesn't matter much in this context. I think IQ is impacting on terrorism in the inverse correlation manner described by plough. Not many smart people are prepared to engage in behaviour that has a high level of probability of taking them out with it even if they are dumb enough to consider they will be rewarded in the afterlife with a bunch of virgins. Try as one might, it is difficult to believe that though sequence is anything other than delusional to the nth degree.
