I use to get a 100% kill of 400kg cull cows with a .22 long hollow point round , hit just below the ear and it is lethal .
And one can carry 500 rounds of .22 calibre with ease , where as a 308 round is hefty , so I would not knock the small calibre especially if used in semi/automatic rifle.
Therefore a .22 round can cause a lot of carnage although less lethal if fired at center of mass .
Anyway good thing the guys are now behind bars and good thing Australia has strong gun laws or these guys would have already had an arsenal .
