I think your dilemmas regarding the immediate future in 2019 is making the volatility spike at a time when traditionally low liquidity will continue to taper year end. We all are aware the risks to the bank profits leveraged to a property downturn that can cause concerns for the general market mindset at large but will not directly impact FMG. They are highly dependent on Chinese steel buying habits.

I have always been reminded by various more experienced investors that I know or follow that one can only control the things under one's control and price/economic cycle/stimulus etc are not any of them. I diversify because I am not brave or smart enough to 'see' the future anymore after surviving the GFC destruction! The market generally is coming off a high point so just sticking head in the sand believing in a long term ideology as so popularly narrated by the business news channels is very dangerous. How long is LT?

Excluding share split bulking up the dividend return, holding FMG LT right from the start would have caused me stomach ulcers during GFC and again in 2016 commodity crashing! Unfortunately I am only interested in cap gain and will always try not to get stuck in drawdown because I became complacent. Going by my last year stake in FMG, had I just left it in the bottom drawer, I would have faced a 25% haircut recently and still be down marked to my entry price.

But I am aware we each have different timelines and age and for some medium term timeline is my death bed! LOL Good luck.
